wow. wow.
I think I know why this book is so popular among females.
1. The main character has no real character, aside from the negative ways most of us females tend to think about ourselves. She is such that some one wanting a fantasy adventure can easily say, “hey, I’m like Bella,” because Bella has no distinct character of her own.
2. Said Bella finds herself the subject of adoration of everyone. What feeling-like-Bella girl would not love to be in that position?
3. Said Bella (i.e. fantasizing female) encounters the “perfect man” who is obsessed with her. Again, This is a fantasy that really tickles girls. The perfect man obsessed with me? oh baby!
4. It really focuses on the euphoria of being “in-love.” You can’t read two sentences together without Bella emphasizing how in love she is, how perfect Edward is, how imperfect she is, but Edward still loves her, and everything about Edward gives her this euphoria. Girls thrive off of these feelings. Doesn’t every teenage girl go through a stage similar to this? again and again?
5. It gives you some of the same highs as harlequin romances, i.e. porn in literature, without the guilt. There isn’t a sex scene. There just almost is with all the same desires and passions evoked. All fun and feelings, no guilt.

Things that really, really , REALLY bother me about this book:

1. One thing I can say is that Bella’s feelings might truly be typical of a high school crush. What bothers me is that this very shallow high school crush is passed off as “true love.” What about it is true love? True love isn’t ignoring another person’s faults (and Edward has them, like, stalking, Anger management, etc.) It’s knowing their faults, and loving them anyway. It’s not making your very existence revolve around someone. I could go on.

2. This was written by a Mormon. It makes Mormons look like this is their idea of true love. I’m a Mormon. This isn’t what we believe. This makes us look bad. We may be a little

The other day I was at a store and saw a little boy excited to get on and ride the escalator. Nothing was passing through his head about being cool, about pretending it was routine for him, no embarrassment, just plain excitement. Holden Caulfield would have said, “He kills me.”

The thing is that we grow out of that and into something else — a much more self-conscious, socially aware, socially anxious, strategic, plotting . . . adult. Caulfield doesn’t like that — it’s full of “phonies.” How do you grow into an adult without becoming a “phony?” As Caulfield says, “How would you know you weren’t being a phony? The trouble is, you wouldn’t.” You could be phony about being phony, priding yourself on your non-phoniness, on your seeing through everybody else’s phoniness. You never know.

If you’re like me, and you haven’t read A Catcher in the Rye for a very long time, it’s worth a re-read (or maybe two).

This is my first Ipod Touch and I love how it feels, it works, and the App Store. The last really makes it worth it. I hardly use the Music player except on long drives in the weekends. For which I got an over the FM streaming device that plugs into the ITouch.

Initially I had a couple of issues that bothered me no end. When I opened it out of the box and charged it through my computer running Windows XP, I noticed that the Itunes Store and Apps Store icons on the home screen were not there. After going through the manual and consulting with other Apple users at work, I realized that these icons come pre-installed and cannot be deleted. I called tech support and went through a complete firmware re-install that got these icons (took about 10-15 minutes). I lost a bunch of data but this was only one hassle of the re-installation process. More importantly I lost the Safari browser and Youtube icons after the re-install. At this point, I was tempted to return the Ipod to Amazon because I thought it was defective and that was the reason that Amazon was discounting it on its website. It was very frustrating because it was ruining the whole experience.

After a day or so, I reluctantly went through the firmware re-install process again myself (didn’t call tech support). Again lost all the data but this time everything started working. Took about 20-30 minutes because of all the data lost had to be synced again.

So, very frustrating first week but a great experience then after.
